12 May 2014 – The Open GeospatialConsortium (OGC®) membership as adopted the OGC standard, “OGC I15(ISO19115 Metadata) Extension Package of CS-W ebRIM Profile 1.0.”

The OGC Catalogue Services Standardestablishes a general framework for implementing catalogue services used forpublishing and discovering geospatial data and geoprocessing services. Thedevelopers of the I15 standard anticipate that this standard will be useful tostakeholders in a wide variety of domains whose spatial metadata conform to theISO19115 Metadata standard.

The I15 standard provides anextension package aligned with the ebRIM application profile of CS-W for thecataloguing of data and services whose metadata implements ISO geospatial metadatastandards. The I15 Extension Package defines mechanisms that allow an ebRIMcatalogue to manage and search ISO conformant metadata in ways that enablearbitrary, complex and deep searches involving multiple metadata elements.

The draft standard wasinitially produced during the ESA HMA (Heterogeneous Missions Accessibility)initiative (HMA) and related projects. The OGC OWS-9 testbed initiative testedthe draft standard and provided input.

Like all OGC standards, thisstandard is free and publicly available.

The OGC is an internationalconsortium of more than 475 companies, government agencies, researchorganizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to developpublicly available geospatial standards. OGC Standards support interoperablesolutions that “geo-enable” the Web, wireless and location-basedservices, and mainstream IT. OGC Standards empower technology developers tomake geospatial information and services accessible and useful with anyapplication that needs to be geospatially enabled.
