The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC API – Moving Features – Part 1:Core (OGC API – MF) Standard. Comments are due by 27 August, 2023.
OGC API – MF provides a uniform way to access, communicate, and manage data about moving features across different applications, data providers, and data consumers. The OGC API – MF Standard defines a set of API building blocks that enable clients to discover, retrieve, and update information about moving features, as well as a data model for describing moving features and their trajectories.
Moving feature data can represent various phenomena, including vehicles, people, animals, weather patterns, and more. Conceptually, Moving Features are dynamic geospatial data that change location, and possibly other characteristics, over time.
OGC API – MF provides a standard and interoperable way to manage such data, with useful applications in transportation management, disaster response, environmental monitoring, and beyond. OGC API – MF also includes operations for filtering, sorting, and aggregating moving feature data based on location, time, and other properties.
The ‘Core’ part of OGC API – MF specifies a set of RESTful web service interfaces and data formats for querying and updating moving feature data over the web.
OGC API Standards define modular API building blocks to spatially enable Web APIs in a consistent way. OpenAPI is used to define the reusable API building blocks with responses in JSON and HTML. To learn more about how the family of OGC API Standards work together to provide modular “building blocks for location” that address both simple and the most complex use-cases, visit ogcapi.org.
OGC Members interested in staying up to date on the progress of this standard, or contributing to its development, are encouraged to join the Moving Features Standards Working Group via the OGC Portal. Non-OGC members who would like to know more about participating in this SWG are encouraged to contact the OGC Standards Program.
