SensorML 1.0 and Sensor Web Enablement Common 2.0 Executable Test Suites released

Products that implement these sensor-web standards and pass the test suites can now be certified as OGC Compliant.

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) announces that the Executable Test Suites (ETS) for version 2.0 of the SWE Common standard and version 1.0 of the Sensor Model Language (SensorML) standard have been approved by the OGC Membership. Products that implement these standards and pass the tests in the test suites can now be certified as OGC Compliant.

Implementers are invited to validate their products using the new test suites, which are available on the OGC validator tool. Testing involves submitting a SensorML or SWE Common file produced by the product being assessed. These tests typically take only 5-10 minutes to complete. Once a product has passed the test, implementers can submit an application to OGC for use of the OGC Compliant trademark on their product. 

The SWE Common standard is part of the Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) suite of OGC Standards. The SWE standards framework is to sensor resources what the World Wide Web is to general information sources - an infrastructure allowing users to easily share their sensor resources in a well-defined way. SWE makes it possible to integrate a variety of sensors, from several different manufacturers, into a network or the Web. The SWE Common standard defines low-level data models for exchanging sensor related data between nodes of a sensor web framework. 

The SensorML standard enables interoperability so that sensors and processes can be better understood by machines, utilized automatically in complex workflows, and easily shared between intelligent sensor web nodes. SensorML provides a means of defining processes and processing components associated with the transformation of sensor observations. The standard specifies models and a schema for describing sensor and actuator systems, as well as processes surrounding measurement and the tasking of assets. 

The OGC Compliance Program is a certification process that ensures organizations' solutions are compliant with OGC Standards. It is a universal credential that allows agencies, industry, and academia to better integrate their solutions. OGC compliance provides confidence that a product will seamlessly integrate with other compliant solutions regardless of the vendor that created them.
