OGC Welcomes AWS to the OGC Community as a Principal Member

AWS joins OGC as a Principal Member to help accelerate innovation by supporting OGC's open and consensus-based process of standards development.

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is pleased to welcome Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com, Inc. company, to the OGC as a Principal Member.

As a Principal Member of OGC, AWS will participate across OGC activities and serve in OGC's Planning Committee to explore market and technology trends relevant to OGC's global mission to make location information more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR).

“I'm happy to welcome AWS to the OGC Community, and to the OGC Planning Committee, as an OGC Principal Member,” says OGC CEO Nadine Alameh. “It's great to see the growing recognition of, and demand for, “geospatial” from the mainstream IT market. OGC's global community of experts will be able to leverage the expertise AWS has in building, deploying, and managing applications in the cloud to further accelerate research initiatives like OGC Testbeds.”

OGC Principal Members ensure that OGC's policies and procedures remain effective and agile in a changing technological environment. OGC Principal Members also participate in final approval decisions for all OGC standards as well as nominations to the Board of Directors.

As an OGC Principal Member, AWS will work alongside other world-leading Principal Member organizations looking to advance the location information industry. A list of all current OGC Members is available at ogc.org/ogc/members.
