The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) request comments on the draft charter for an OGC Common Object Model Container (COMC) Standards Working Group (SWG).

The core philosophy behind the COMC SWG is that a user should be able to publish and retrieve data in the format most suitable for that user. Ultimately, the geospatial community should be able minimize concerns with different data encodings and specific server specifications, allowing a free flow of information between systems and users.

To achieve this, COMC SWG aims to define a container, built using the OGC OWS Context standard, that references content in an OGC Coverage Implementation Schema (CIS) data store and allow users to find content merely by querying the description of the container. Delivery of data to the end user would then occur using the most appropriate OGC web service for the data and user's needs.

The draft charter is available at: https://portal.ogc.org/files/72487. Comments should be sent via email to charter-requests@opengeospatial.org and are due by 30th March 2017. The OGC and the SWG welcome all interested parties.

About the OGC

The OGC is an international consortium of more than 525 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that “geo-enable” the Web, wireless and location based services, and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
