On this #GeoPackageDay 2020 - the 6th anniversary of the format - Jeff Yutzler (GeoPackage SWG Chair) discusses some of the benefits of this portable, extensible, efficient, online/offline container format for geospatial information and maps.
In a recent OGC Architecture Board (OAB) meeting, the GeoPackage 1.2 candidate standard was reviewed and the OAB reached a consensus that the candidate base standard is ready to be released to proceed to an approval vote in the OGC, but that the Elevation Extension does not yet meet the criteria. This is not a repudiation of the work done to date. Rather, the OAB recognizes that elevation content is of general interest to OGC and ISO standards and thus the work should be as broadly applicable as possible.
The DARPA Transformative Apps program, or TransApps, is developing a diverse array of militarily-relevant software apps using an innovative new development and acquisition process. A military apps marketplace will be created to enable rapid innovation to meet user needs based on a direct collaboration between a vibrant and highly competitive development community and involved communities of end-users. Hi everyone, or perhaps I should say g’day.
With my relocation from Australia to England now complete, I have been wondering what my first OGC blog should be about. The excellent discussion generated in the past couple of weeks by Chris Holmes’s comments (http://lists.opengeospatial.org/pipermail/requests/2013-February/000205....) on the OGC GeoPackage Standard seems a perfect way to start. And as you all get to know me you will learn I love a good robust discussion.
